by John Hopton

Notes on Short S.25 Sunderland ML824

This Sunderland was part of an order for 150 examples of the mk.III variant, within the serial number range ML725-ML884, and built by Short Bros. & Harland in the sub-group ML807-ML831. It was one of a considerable number of mk.III aircraft modified to mk.V standard during service. In 1950, it was transferred to France, and served with the Aeronavale until withdrawn in 1960. It was acquired by Peter Thomas for the Sunderland Trust at Pembroke where it was displayed from 1961 to 1971, when it was transferred to the R.A.F. Museum. It was restored in 1976.
